The Last BLOCKBUSTER Teams Up With Airbnb for a Nostalgic Sleepover

Many movie buffs cherish the memories of going to their local BLOCKBUSTER store on a Friday night and bringing home the latest releases or an old classic that they wanted to revisit. Although the majority of the locations are gone, one still remains in Bend, Ore. It now wants to recreate that beloved experience to thank the locals who have supported it during these hard times.

On Aug. 17, the Bend location will list itself on Airbnb so that Deschutes County residents can book one of three slumber parties at the store that will take place on Sept. 18, 19 and 20. For just $4, plus taxes and fees, guests can book a stay for an unlimited movie marathon.

Store Manager Sandi Harding will serve as Airbnb host and stock the shelves with movies for the sleepover guests, who will need to come from the same household and follow COVID-19 guidelines for wearing masks and social distancing. In addition, “Guests can rest assured knowing that the store will be cleaned and prepared in accordance with CDC guidelines and consistent with the Airbnb enhanced cleaning protocol,” Airbnb says.

“After the final guests check out, BLOCKBUSTER customers can check out the living room space during store hours for a limited time,” Airbnb says, noting that it will also donate to the Humane Society of Central Oregon, a longtime partner of the store.
