GlobalData: Flexible Clothing Manufacturers Will Win-Out Post-COVID-19
A majority of brands, retailers and clothing manufacturers saw a wipeout of the entire spring 2020 season, but are confident trade will resume by fall and expect it to look different, data and analytics company GlobalData reports.
COVID-19 has forced the global apparel industry to think differently. Many businesses are scrutinizing their supply chains, evaluating where they can make changes and avoid a repeat of the impact the pandemic has had, said Hannah Abdulla, apparel correspondent at GlobalData.
Supply chain resilience will remain top-of-mind and clothing manufacturers will need to offer buyers more flexibility to succeed in a post-COVID world. “What that will inevitably mean for garment makers looking to retain business and secure new orders is a willingness to offer more flexibility,” Abdulla said. “Last-minute orders and smaller order volumes is the sort of thing they can look to expect as retailers aim to avoid drowning in excess inventory as has been the case in recent months.”
